In the spirit of giving, I want to share one of my favorite “Coffee with KP” episodes with all of you for free. Today’s guest Nely Galan speaks powerfully about creating a life that marries your mission with your money. I’m grateful that Substack is a platform that allows me to do both! Please consider upgrading your subscription to paid to receive weekly inspirational episodes of “Coffee with KP” and other articles about how to get hired in Hollywood (with no fancy connections.) As a once active Mormon, I forged an unlikely path in Hollywood and am sharing my experience in hopes that it will help you too.
In this episode of Coffee with KP, we are talking to media mogul, former head of Telemundo, and financial literacy advocate NELY GALAN! Nely was a WME client when we met and has since become a mentor, friend, and NYT bestselling author of “Self Made” (which should be required reading for every high school and college student who wants a successful life. I’ve listened to her book 4 times on Audible, and I encourage you to read it too!). Today, you can hear the unedited replay from when she spoke to my class at “Coffee with KP.” Warning: only listen to this episode if you want to be uplifted, inspired, and enlightened by one of the most successful women I’ve ever met!
Follow Nely on Instagram and tell her you heard her episode on “Coffee with KP!” I’d love to hear from you too, so please let me know what you learned from this episode in the comments on the app.
WHAT IS COFFEE WITH KP?: “Coffee With KP” is a one-hour group informational meeting with industry professionals over a virtual coffee chat. In the first 30 minutes, I ask the questions, and in the next 30 minutes, I take questions from students nationwide. When stay-at-home orders were in place in mid-March 2020, I realized that my students needed to connect with industry professionals to learn about careers they wanted from the people actually doing them, like agents, managers, executives, actors, directors, singers, songwriters, showrunners, editors, business managers, and more!
I ended up hosting 174 episodes of “Coffee with KP,” talking with industry professionals about what they do, how they do it, and how you can do it too!
These are casual conversations presented to you uncut, unfiltered, and unedited. I’m choosing select episodes of my “Coffee with KP: Covid Collection” to share with my paid subscribers on a weekly basis.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO LISTEN?
1. GROW YOUR PROFESSIONAL NETWORK: Growing your professional network can be intimidating. I want to take the intimidation out of the equation and invite you to listen to some of the most successful people working in entertainment today. If you ever have a meeting at one of these companies or with any of my guests, please tell them you heard their session of “Coffee with KP” and what you learned from it. It will make you memorable in all the right ways.
2. EDUCATE YOURSELF ON VARIOUS JOBS: This is the perfect opportunity to expose yourself to professionals and jobs you’ve never even thought about. For example, after our last session, one of my “My Grads” told me she’s been working as a PA for 2 years with the intention of wanting to be a writer. After hearing 3 entertainment attorneys speak this year, she is now changing direction and going to law school!
