You are getting this newsletter because you want to learn about the entertainment industry from the people who are in it.

“Coffee with KP” is my version of a talkshow/podcast, where industry professionals share their backstory, take questions from my class and offer up advice. Upgrade your subscription ($8/mo) to get access to this episode and all previously released.

Continuing our Coffee with KP: Covid Collection series, today we’re talking to Hollywood creative power couple George Tillman and Marcia Wright. I met George and Marcia many years ago at an ICON MANN event on a dance floor. A mutual love of 90s music was the ice breaker to meeting one of the most successful Hollywood partnerships (in business and life). The Tillmans personify #couplegoals and I was so honored that they chose to spend time with my class and share their true Hollywood story.

George and Marcia are high school sweethearts from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together they attended Colombia College Chicago, where Marcia majored in Acting and George majored in Film and Video. Marcia got her first big role in the 1995 Sandra Bullock film “While You Were Sleeping” and has been acting ever since, including in some of her husband’s films (“Barbershop 1, 2 & 3” as an example!) She’s also an acting coach and the owner of her own acting studio in LA. George directed his first feature director at 26 years old. From there, he and his producing partner raised money to shoot his first feature in 1994. His second feature “Soulfood” was picked up by 20th Century Fox, and because they liked his past work, they kept him on to direct. Since then, he’s also directed “The Hate U Give,” “The Longest Ride,” and episodes of “This is Us,” “Power,” and “Luke Cage.” His most recent work is the 2023 critically acclaimed film “Big George Foreman,” which he wrote and directed.

In this episode of “Coffee with KP,” you’ll learn the most important thing that every person in Hollywood is looking for when they hire (it starts with a “U” and everyone can/must express it in a job interview to get hired and on the job if you want to keep it,) how to get into Hollywood as a director and that you can be in a loving marriage in Hollywood.
