Continuing our Coffee with KP: Covid Collection series, today we’re talking to Phillip Sun, President, Managing Partner, and Co-Founder of M88, a full-service management firm representing mega stars like Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Simu Liu, and more. I met Phil many years ago when I was an agent at William Morris and he spent a week floating as my assistant. He’s come a long way since then and is at the top of his game representing A-list talent and running a successful company. He smart, elegant and has the polish of a pro!

Phillip grew up in West Virginia as a child of first-generation Chinese immigrants. He attended William and Mary and majored in International Relations. His first job in Hollywood was a production assistant (PA) on the 2005 film “Adam and Steve” starring Parker Posey, which eventually led to him working as her assistant. He then landed a spot in the mailroom at WME (then called WMA), where he worked his way up to become one of the first Asian American agents to be promoted to partner at WME. In August 2020, he founded M88 with MACRO Founder & CEO Charles King as a management company “representing a diverse generation of talented artists who bring fresh perspectives and unique histories to create much-needed cultural shifts.” To this day, Phil has graced THR’s Next Generation list, Empowerment list, and A100 Most Impactful Asians list.

In this episode of “Coffee with KP,” you’ll learn how the representation business works, get solid advice on how to operate within a talent agency/management company to get promoted (Phil was promoted at 25 years old at WME!) and how to maintain your humility & humanity in a tough business I gotta tell you, Phil Sun is a class act and you’ll leave uplifted after hearing him speak.
