Continuing our Coffee with KP: Covid Collection series, today we’re talking to Madeleine Smithberg, powerhouse producer and Co-Creator of “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central. If you want to learn about the birth of comedy news, read this LA Times article and meet the woman who changed the political landscape forever.

Madeleine received her Bachelor’s degree in Art History at Binghamton University in New York. After graduating, she worked as a field producer in Italy for “Radiotelevisione Italiana” before landing a role at NBC’s Late Night with David Letterman. At Letterman, she worked her way up from coordinator to producer over the course of 6 years and has since led a long, decorated career in this business, including as the Executive Producer and Writer of Steve Harvey’s Big Time, Co-Creator and Executive Producer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (which earned her multiple Peabody and Emmy Awards), and founder of Mad Cow Productions, where she produced comedy projects for HISTORY, [adult swim], FOX, BET, Nickelodeon, CNN, and SHOWTIME.

She changed careers a few years ago and serves a Teaching Chef at Blue Ribbon Cooking and put her comedy TV skills to use in her YouTube Channel, MAD IN THE KITCHEN,

In 2022 (the same day that Putin invaded Ukraine) she received a breast cancer diagnosis and had to walk away from MAD IN THE KITCHEN and is regrouping and figuring out her next move.

In this episode of “Coffee with KP,” you’ll learn the history of “The Daily Show,” advice on how/if/when to have kids, and pivoting your career in midlife.
