Continuing our Coffee with KP: Covid Collection series, today we’re talking to Co-Head of the Television Literary Department at The Gersh Agency: Katy McCaffrey. I’ve known Katy since the early 2000s when we were assistants at WMA. Since then, Katy’s had a fabulous career, particularly advocating with and for women.

If you want a career in TV (development, current or at an agency) than this episode is for you!

You are getting this newsletter because you want to learn about the entertainment industry from the people who are in it.

“Coffee with KP” is my version of a talkshow/podcast, where industry professionals share their backstory, take questions from my class and offer up advice. Upgrade your subscription ($8/mo) to get access to this episode and all previously released.

Katy attended George Washington University and majored in Radio and Television. Upon graduating, she started off working in news but made the switch over to entertainment three years later, getting her first entertainment job at the William Morris Agency. She worked her way up to the role of agent in the subrights department, but seeing all of the projects that got passed on, she became a producer to tell the stories she wanted to tell. As a producer and executive, Katy worked with USA, Fox, Comedy Central, 20th Television Studios (Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother and more,) and more before going back to agenting at Gersh in 2014. Most recently, she was promoted to Co-head of the Television Department 2021.

In this episode of “Coffee with KP,” you’ll learn about the TV development process, what to include on your resume to get an agent’s attention and her passion to put more women in directing and writing positions with the organization We for She.
